Will Cloud Services Eventually Overpower Small Data Centers?

cloudWhat is popular in the technology today might be irrelevant tomorrow. The technology in our world is moving faster than ever, leaving people anxious as to what the next turn will bring. There are firms out there who keep track of new technology and analyze its future in the industry.

One firm, the International Data Corporation (IDC), has just announced their research on the future of data centers and their modifications to come. They have concluded that in 2017, data center construction will be at its greatest point, and from there will slowly weaken. This is because of the innovation of cloud services. IDC is predicting that the total number of data center will reach 8.6 million at its highest in 2017. After that, it will gradually fall and enterprises will turn to cloud services.

Richard Villars, an IDC analyst, discussed how a large majority of companies will cease to run their own infrastructure within the following five years. Few companies will choose to run their own data centers as mega data centers – which are used by cloud providers – will provide 72.6% of data center remodeling. That is a large percentage and means big changes for the way cloud services will affect enterprises worldwide. The future of the cloud services, data centers, and other technologies are in the hands of researchers and technological enthusiasts that work hard at creating new innovations everyday in order to better our world.
