Ericsson and IBM, the leading information technology company, have come together to brainstorm the creation of 5G antennas.  Both companies are at the top of their industry and will unite their skills in order to develop something this world has yet to experience.  Ericsson’s telecom expertise and IBM’s data management hope to soon build this new technology. Creating a 5G antenna will provide a more improved data speed than is currently reachable in the U.S.

Both IBM and Ericsson will be researching phased-array antenna techniques that will ultimately speed up our nation’s data speeds in order to better satisfy customers.  The goal is for mobile data traffic to increase 10 times by 2019, once 5G is in the hands of the general public. 

Before it gets in the hands of the public, both Ericsson and IBM will be working extremely hard in order to enhance speed like no other company can.  By raising the number of sectors per cell site, phased-array antennas can increase bandwidth. IBM and Ericsson are creating a new market made up of 5G antennas and networking, which will bring them great business and future success. At this time, 4G coverage is what’s in demand by most subscribers in the U.S., because it is still so fresh.  In order for 5G to be the most desired network, it needs to be significantly better than 4G.  In the coming years, 5G is expected to be the new big thing thanks to companies like Ericsson and IBM.  Ericsson has stated that this innovative technology should be available come 2020.
