What’s ahead for Verizon in 2015?

December is usually a time to look toward a promising new year. While people make New Year’s Resolutions, companies develop big plans for where they want to see their company over the next year. For Verizon, the carrier has plans to launch carrier aggregation for 700 MHz and AWS spectrum. Other LTE advanced features are also in the works for 2015.

 The significance of improved carrier aggregation is that it blends different bands of spectrum together to produce wider channels, greater capacity, and quicker speeds. This practice has become an extremely popular technique for LTE Advanced standard.

Verizon has been stable in holding mostly 20x20 MHz blocks throughout the United States. However, they variety of spectrum at their disposal will be available for aggregation to provide higher peak speeds. The blend of 10x10 MHz block, 700 MHz band, and a 20x20 MHz AWS block will create an improved 30x30 MHz channel. In order for customers to enjoy this development, software updates will likely need to be sent to devices that are not yet built for this compatibility. 

Additional LTE advanced components will implement the enhancement of capacity, coverage, and performance in the LTE network. Inter-cell interference coordination will be put into effect to allow small cells and macrocells to coexist in the same spectrum.

Also, MIMO will see a boost at 4x4 MIMO in order to progress uplink performance and coverage. Some of the other exciting changes for Verizon are spreading the PCS spectrum to 11 markets that include New York City and Cleveland. Verizon is also growing its VoLTE presence by expanding to 7 mobile devices. Overtime, VoLTE is expected to become the standard voice service.

Verizon has many big plans for a promising year. They plan to remain atop the carrier food chain by staying ahead in spectrum, VoLTE, and LTE. While there are a lot of improvements in the works, it will be intriguing to see how many objectives on their wishlist will be accomplished in 2015.
