Launch 3 Museum Feature: Candlestick Telephone

old phone 2Launch 3 is committed to launching a telephone museum within the next 2 years consisting of old-fashioned and distinctive phones. The phone as we know it has taken on many different forms over the past 100 years. Our company has recently acquired a Candlestick telephone to add to our museum. This type of phone was typically used from the 1890s to the 1930s. Despite circulation ending in the 30s, this phone remained popular up until the 1950s. Candlestick telephones contain a mouth piece fixed at the top of a stand along with an earpiece that was used to hear the person on the other end. The earpiece would sit in a hook on the side to end the call and disconnect any audio from going through. The base of the phone also includes a rotary dial to call specific households directly. Interestingly, the phone unit itself did not ring. It was necessary to install a ringer box that would be the source of notifying users of an incoming phone call with ringing bells. You will commonly see these phones on popular shows like Boardwalk Empire or Downtown Abbey. If you’re familiar with these shows and others set during these time periods, you should already be familiar with how these phones were used. If you are looking for authentic props for Movie/TV sets and would like to rent our equipment, you can contact our team for more information. In addition, if you have fascinating and antique telephone equipment like this one and would like to contribute to our museum, you can contact us at 877-878-9134 or email sales@launch3.net.
