January’s manufacturer is: Emerson

 Emerson has established themselves as one of the biggest power equipment manufacturers in the telecom industry. With its origins dating back to 1890 in Ferguson, Missouri, Emerson was founded by John Wesley Emerson who manufactured electric motors. This quickly proved to be a successful business opportunity as AC motors are more widely sold and developed. During World War 2, Emerson changed focus toward helping the war effort with the production of shell casings and gun turrets. They also continued to expand their business with acquisitions of White-Rodgers, Therm-O-Disc, U.S. Electrical Motors, Ridge Tool, and InSinkErator.

Post-war expansion went from 2 plants, 4,000 employees and $56 million to 82 plants, 31,000 employees and $800 million in sales in 1973. Emerson’s first move toward modern technology came in 1989 to support innovative product growth. Soon after, the company made their leap into telecom with a series of acquisitions that cost Emerson nearly $2.5 billion. The focus was to provide backup power for telecom equipment as well as infrastructure for IP communications. In 1999, Emerson attained Jordan Industries’ telecommunications equipment business to further their presence in telecom. By 2004, Emerson had transformed themselves as a powerhouse in the power telecom industry. They would acquire the outside plant and power systems business of Marconi.

Subsequently, Motorola’s embedded communications computing business would be acquired. Emerson also got involved in DAS networks by providing DC power and infrastructure. They deliver established DC power expertise, an extensive range of enclosure solutions and a strong knowledge of data driven network design. Some of the systems are the NetSure 721 DC Power System, NetSure 701 DC Power System, NetSure 710 DC Power System, and the NetSure 502 DC Power System. Emerson has been recognized as a high-performance company with recognitions as a Fortune 500, Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovator, CIO 100, and many more accolades.
