Ericsson Fights for Their Technology Rights

Being that Ericsson is an older company that pioneered wireless technology, many new innovative technologies have been discovered since their beginning.  Ericsson created the basis for cell phone technology and other companies like Apple and Samsung have built their technology using Ericsson’s creations as their base.  Ericson started the wireless movement, and their technological discoveries allowed other companies to continue to evolve this movement into the future.  Ericsson believes that certain companies have overstepped their right to use Ericsson’s basic technology in their makings of newer technologies.

Apple and Ericsson are currently suing each other over the pricing of wireless-technology patents used for making both the iPhone and iPad.  Apple feels that Ericsson is requesting overly priced royalty rates and Apple believes that Ericsson’s basic technology is not relevant to Apple’s newer innovations and technology.  Ericsson feels strongly against that and feels a lawsuit is necessary in order to get what they deserve.

Ericsson’s lawsuit with Samsung was more focused on the various technologies used by all types of devices, including bandwidth conservation, network accessibility, stronger signals, and better sound quality.  Ericsson wants the tech world to evolve and create new devices, but they would like credit where it is due.  Ericsson’s chief intellectual property officer, Kasim Alfalahi, stated, “Our approach is on fair and reasonable terms. That’s always been our approach.”
