There’s no more need to wish upon a star anymore because the dream of small cells in Disney World has come true. As you walk around Magic Kingdom, you will slowly notice tiny base stations scattered around the park. Not only that, you will notice that your cell phone service will be performing better as well.
With the large amount of people that visit Disney World each year, the demand for mobile service has continued to grow. AT&T has deployed more than 350 small cells that will provide users with 3G and LTE coverage. In addition, there will be 35 distributed antenna systems and 40 repeaters installed as well. This will help provide better voice and data usage on the networks by having every inch of the famous theme park covered.
The primary purpose for the installation of small cells has been to benefit park employees. There is a heavy concentration of small cell coverage such as administrative areas and underground tunnels used by employees to navigate the park.
Disney World is one of the first major theme parks to take advantage of this developing technology. For a place where the sights and sounds are what make Disney so magical, it is an esthetic victory to utilize small cells rather than mounting cell towers in the middle of the park. It will be unsurprising to see other theme parks follow their lead in the near future.
In the big scheme of things, this operation is a part of AT&T’s plan to deploy 40,000 small cells by the end of 2015. Launch 3 Telecom can provide equipment used by AT&T in their network.
