The rural town of Highland Township, MI has recently approved the construction of a Verizon cell tower. There were, of course, oppositions from town citizens, but they were convinced by one of Verizon’s attorneys.
Highland Township is a rural area in need of cell phone coverage. The people there are letting go of landlines as their main source of communication and are upgrading to cell phones that need constant coverage. Cell towers are usually built where they are most needed, highly populated urban cities. However, carriers need to cover all their customers in order to remain at the top of the industry. Verizon wants to build the cell tower in Highland Township in order to provide sufficient coverage to the growing customers they have there.
Citizens, as usual, were hard to convince and even accused Verizon of being money hungry. Verizon’s attorney, Robert LaBelle, stated, “We would make more money if we didn’t put it up. We put it up in order to be able to cover a signal. We do that to preserve our license and to service customers who aren’t getting signals. We are here because we need this.”
Verizon is just looking to follow rules in order to keep their license as well as properly satisfy all their customers’ network needs. Fortunately, the proposition for a cell tower was approved and full coverage will soon be available.
