It seems that Huawei is often getting caught up in a bad legal situation. T-Mobile is taking Huawei to court for allegations of spying on their cellphone-testing robot named Tappy. Apparently, photographs were taken without consent as well as Huawei employees attempting to steal parts.
This cellphone-testing robot has a storied past between these two companies. In 2007, T-Mobile was the first carrier to produce a robot capable of testing handsets by touching the phone the same way a person would. Huawei previous provided phones for T-Mobile and proceeded to duplicate this robot once the two sides went their own way.
There have been other reported instances of Huawei engineers stealing one of the robot’s simulated fingertips in a bag. Huawei doesn’t deny that some of these allegations are true but feel that legal action was not necessary. However, AT&T thinks otherwise as due to damages. Their reason for filing a lawsuit is that they lost millions of dollars switching to other devices as well as Huawei profiting from their actions.
"Due to Huawei's material breaches of its contracts with T-Mobile, and its unlawful theft of trade secrets, T-Mobile was forced to stop its ongoing handset supply relationship with Huawei at substantial cost," T-Mobile said.
This is not the first time that Huawei has been accused of spying. In 2013, they were accused of spying for the Chinese government. These serious of events continue to hurt their reputation as a trustworthy company. The results of the lawsuit are expected to be carried out in the near future.
