Each month, Launch 3 Telecom will spotlight one of our many manufacturers. July’s manufacturer is: Juniper Networks
Juniper Networks was launched in 1996 due to the ambitions of Pradeep Sindhu. Their claim to fame has been manufacturing IP network equipment such as routers and security products. The router was especially a source of intrigue for Sindhu when developing the company as it was the ultimate building block of a network.
In 1998, Juniper unveiled its first product named the M40 core router. The success of the M40 established them as a serious competitor in the hardware market. This technology considerably surpassed all other routers available in the market at the time.
Despite the 2 years of time and research put into developing the M40, Juniper would also develop Junos Platform during this time which would become a difference maker and the foundation for all future innovation. This is the central operating system that runs on most of Juniper's networking equipment to this day. It covers a wide range of platforms from routing, switching and security.
In the subsequent years, Juniper Networks would develop series of router families for particular usage. The E-series was produced as broadband edge routers. The J-series was developed as an enterprise router. The LN-series was made for mobile and military purposes. The M series was created for multiservice routing and MX-series routers were created for Ethernet. The T-series and PTX-series were additional routers created by Juniper.
Along the way, Juniper has made acquisitions to improve their company such as Layer Fiver in 1999, ASIC in 2000, Pacific Broadband Communications in 2001, Nexsi Systems and Unisphere in 2002, and NetScreen in 2004 which was their largest acquisition with $4 billion. Additional acquisitions included Kagoor Networks, Peribit Networks, Redline Networks, and Mykonos Software.
In recent years, Juniper continues to make some big moves to maintain a strong presence in the market. The year 2013 saw them churn out the PTX3000 which is the world’s smallest Converged Supercore, the EX9200 which is the world’s most programmable core switch, and the MetaFabric which is for next-generation data centers deployment across multiple locations. Their 2014 has started just as strong by increasing their presence within the industry through the only open, secure, multi-layered, and multi-domain SDN solution.
Juniper Networks is constantly innovating the router industry by improving technology. Juniper Networks believes the network is the single greatest vehicle for knowledge, understanding, and human advancement. Launch 3 Telecom wants to help circulate that philosophy by purchasing and selling their equipment. We regularly provide IP network equipment from Juniper Networks and other manufacturers.
