December 5th marks the 3 year anniversary of the launch of Verizon 4G LTE. It is hard to believe that 4G has expanded from 39 markets to over 500 markets in such a short span of time.
According to President and CEO Dan Mead during the 2010 launch, “Verizon Wireless is making the best network even better. Our initial 4G LTE launch gives customers access to the fastest and most advanced mobile network in America.”
At the time, it was uncertain how providing 4G would affect the market. The demand has risen steadily as 95 percent of the United States population, accounting for 303 million people, is covered by 4G LTE. Verizon now has more than 66 percent of the company’s data traffic on 4G LTE. This expansion shows how important the upgraded speed has become to customers as well as Verizon.
Even with an already extensive network, Verizon continues to enable and build cell towers that provide 4G service to more areas. As recently as this week, Verizon enhanced 4G LTE coverage in New Kensington in Pennsylvania, Valley View in Ohio, and Syracuse in New York, and on Route 2 in Vermont.
