T-Mobile Speeding by Its LTE Competition

Carriers are always competing to provide the best service at the fastest speeds. In a recent study done by OpenSignal, T-Mobile was determined as the carrier with the fastest LTE speed in the U.S. The average LTE speed was at 10 Mbps compared to AT&T and Verizon who were at 6.5 Mbps.

The advantage in speed can be seen as a result of multiple reasons. T-Mobile made a point of rolling out a large deployment of 15x15 MHz LTE capabilities. Another reason for the higher speeds is they have less strain on their network. Compared to AT&T and Verizon, less people are using their network resulting in less network demand.

In general, the United States has ranked poorly in terms of LTE speeds. Considering the country with the top LTE speed, Spain, is at 18 Mbps, all of the major U.S. carriers have room for improvement. The reason for the slower speeds could be the large volume of subscribers. T-Mobile is doing their part to bring up the U.S. average.

The other carriers are finding ways to be better in different areas. Although T-Mobile has the highest speeds, Verizon customers are able to maintain their LTE service the longest at 86% of the time.
