Calix provides broadband communications access systems and software and is highly dominant within their global industry. The company is ahead of others when it comes to technological innovation and they have created a recently enhanced product available for customers, the Calix C7 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP).
The Calix C7 was first released in 2006. To keep up with the latest technology, Calix recognized the need to enhance the product, allowing them to remain on top in their industry. The Calix C7 represents a transition to Internet protocol (IP), from previous legacy services, as well as an upgrade to an all-Ethernet infrastructure versus the previous SONET, TDM, and ATM networking. However, it does still support SONET transport. This product was improved to offer two new line cards to support high-density aggregation of T1 lines for mobile backhaul.
“This provides the potential for significant efficiencies in our network, keeps our access network under one management system, and gives us one high-density platform with the carrier-grade features my customers expect," said Ron McCue, COO of service provider Silver Star Communications.
The Calix C7 MSAP offers a multitude of new features that were made to simplify the control of the product and minimize costs. They include doubling capacity, increasing GR303/TR08 processing, delivering 1:N protection for carrier-grade reliability.
This equipment cements their place in the industry as well as influences on other major companies to improve their products to suit the technology of tomorrow.
