Alaska may be one of the last states to join the United States, but it is trying to avoid being the last one to utilize superfast broadband. Alaska Communications is planning to achieve this goal through the expansion of its fiber network.
Residents of the massive state can look forward to 1 Gbps capabilities to supplement its current 200 Mbps Internet. With the growing demand for greater bandwidth in managed services, providing faster speeds for businesses becomes a significant move. Due to Alaska being set far apart from the continental U.S., it could be believed that broadband speeds could be overlooked in this region. Furthermore, shared data plans are also being rolled out so businesses can share up to 200 GB of data across multiple devices among all employees.
“For the past 18 months, we've been investing in a very large fiber optic network project to bring faster connectivity to our customers. These new speeds are a result of that work." said Anand Vadapalli, president and CEO of Alaska Communications.
Additionally, service providers improving the speeds for consumers gives them plans with speeds up to 50 Mbps in various regions. Previously, the Alaska Communications only offered speeds as high as 1 to 10 Mbps.
