T-Mobile making a Comeback

t-mobile-logoIt was not long ago that T-Mobile looked as though it was a lost carrier. They had failed to achieve a merger with AT&T and their network was gaining a reputation for being unreliable. The ushering in of John Legere as the new CEO has resulted in sparking new life into the carrier. Legere has become one of the most recognizable and outspoken CEOs out of all the carriers. During his short time at the helm, T-Mobile has upgraded their network by rolling out 4G LTE. The demand for 4G coverage has become incredibly crucial to the way customers use their cell phone. Data capacity and speed has become a focal point among all major carriers. In addition, the carrier purchased pieces like MetroPCS to expand their network and have added the iPhone to their arsenal of phones. T-Mobile might not be the largest mobile network operator like Verizon or the most reliable like AT&T. However, T-Mobile is becoming the most popular with new ways to approach consumers referred to as an “Uncarrier”. They have eliminated cellphone contracts and replaced them with installment plans. They also instituted the “JUMP” program that allows customers upgrade their phones up to twice a year. The trifecta was the elimination of international data fees. "It's undeniable that all these things they've been doing to attract attention and land customers have been paying off," said Gartner analyst Bill Menezes. Although these are great ways of bringing in a different audience, customers first and foremost care about the quality service that they receive. Adding MetroPCS helped T-Mobile more than 9 million customers. The carrier can also boast that the drop-off when out of their service area is less severe than competitors. T-Mobile is at a disadvantage to Verizon or AT&T because of their pre-existing landline networks with large subscriber bases. Often times it is difficult to find people who want to roll the dice on the nation's fourth-place carrier. Despite those pitfalls, T-Mobile has come out swinging the past 2 years and looks to continue applying the pressure. The changes have paid off as customers and revenue continue to climb. An upgraded network, a confident CEO, and a rebuilt strategy have now revitalized a carrier that was almost on the cusp of non-existence.
