Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS Available at Launch 3 Telecom

7450_ESS_7High availability has become the chief priority of the service provider’s standards for consumer and business Ethernet services. The request for high availability has been most distinct on the service provider side where thousands of connections are accommodated.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS overcomes the limitations imposed by traditional Ethernet switches to deliver Carrier Ethernet VPN services profitably. New Ethernet connectivity focuses on both connectivity and revenue generating services. Some benefits include scalability, reliability with sub 50ms restoration, service guarantee for quality of service (QoS), and Network/Service level management. These tools allow the service provider to isolate errors quickly with an end-to-end perspective.

The Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS comes in different frame sizes such as the seven-slot ESS-7 to accommodate availability and speed. The seven-slot framework of the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS supports one or two switch fabric/ CPU modules (SF/CPM), for delivering up to 100 Gb/s (full duplex, redundant) or 200 Gb/s (full duplex, redundant) fabric/system capacity in eight rack units (one-fifth of a rack). Others include the 12-slot ESS-12 and the 6-slot ESS-6 which function similarly. The one slot ESS-1 with a one-slot shelf provides 20 Gb/s (full duplex) fabric/system capacity in just 1.5 rack units.

The 7450 service switch addresses the service provider’s inter-region and nationwide requirements with different services. There are 2 improved MPLS-Enabled Ethernet Business services because of the 7450 ESS; the Ethernet Virtual leased line (VLL) and the Ethernet Virtual Private line service (VPLS). For VLL, the advantage is providing similar functionality to a frame relay or ATM leased line service, but with potential cost savings and ease of use. This is a popular service for companies wanting to focus on Ethernet offerings. For VPLS, the advantage is leading service with high bandwidth capacity (greater than T1/E1), multiple QoS levels, scalability and the ability to offer rigorous SLAs.

The design and durability of the 7450 ESS has been vigorously tested to ensure the functionality of its usage with different applications and services. The service-oriented framework supports SLA-based Ethernet services. The 7450 is also eco-friendly by functioning with energy efficiency. With the platform design, research and development, and life cycle management being taken into account, the 7450 ESS produces some of the highest levels of energy efficiency in the market. This is useful helping service providers reduce their overall energy consumption.
